Here we have an unusual and handsome modified Dick Simmonds Ajax/Achilles tank loco.
Designed first as 'Ajax', a powerful and compact 0-4-0 tank loco and then enlarged into the 0-6-0 layout for 'Achilles'. This unique model is presented in the form of an 0-4-4 tank, with a bogie under the extended footplate. It's currently going through our workshops for a light overhaul and repaint.
The boiler is silver soldered copper, and feed by hand pump in bunker, twin axle pumps and an injector. The cylinders are in cast iron with slide valves actuated by Walschaert’s valve gear, and lubricated by twin mechanical pumps.
This isn't an exhibition winning masterpiece, rather it is a well engineered and capable loco, ideal for running all day at your club.
